Geek Girls Network

| Friday, February 4
So, first of all, I've been apparently living under a rock, because one of my favorite blogs, which I read quite frequently, has me linked on its front page under its "G33KTASTIC LINX"!! Yes, good ol' Geek Girls Network has little ol' me right there. And I've never noticed it until now. I feel so honored and so lame at the exact same time.

Now, why get so excited about this you ask? Well, let's start right here. If you're reading my blog, then you're probably a geek. I don't know what kinds of geeks you are, but I'm assuming you're a geek of some kind. Comics, video games, sci-fi, fantasy, cosplay, food, LEGO, toys, Shakespeare, Lovecraft, whatever.

So, if you read blogs and are a geek, then you need to check out GGN if you haven't already. It's run by an awesome group of ladies. And no, it's not just for girls. It's just *mostly* written/run by girls. The wonderful Kristin, Nicole, Amy, Katie and MANY MANY others write about pretty much anything you can think of. And a lot of stuff you've not. Some of their recent postings have been about dirty comics of old, regular comics of new, and how it's okay for kids to play video games.

Then there's the podcast. Yes, Kristin and Nicole host a bi-monthly podcast that can be found on iTunes or here. It's fun, it's silly, and they have had some incredible interviews. My favorite ones so far have been, well, I can't honestly narrow it down. Recent highlights have been an interview with MythBuster Grant Imahara (can't tell you how jealous I was!) and listening to the two hosts geek out over Kristin's recent exposure to Doctor Who for the first time ever. It's so much fun.

They've hosted some epic tweet-ups and parties, most notoriously (?) the one at SDCC that was sponsored by the Science Channel! From what I understand, that one was absolutely insane, and I'm so sad I wasn't there. I hope to get to one some day. *cough*GenCon*cough* *sneeze*Dragon*Con*sneeze* For now, I just have to experience them vicariously via the blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

So, if none of this awesomeness has convinced you yet, what about this last bit? The website is all purple-y!! My favorite color!

Hump Day Hotties #11

| Thursday, July 1

I know Thursday is not "Hump Day," but it had to get moved due to Bloggerstock. And as today is my 4th anniversary, I'm going to be selfish, and brag, and post pictures of MY hottie, the Hubs. He's on a business trip, so he can't fight me posting pictures of him on the interwebs. He's cute, hot, adorable, geeky, and a really big goofball!

his caption was "this is how i'd look at your mom"

he has a penchant for raising his eyebrow(s) in pics, especially when drinking...

So, thank you for allowing me to gush over my awesome husband for this week's post. For those of you who've been around for a while, you know he's a pretty awesome geek guy, anyway, but today was dedicated to the fact that I think he's pretty much the greatest hottie around. <3 him so much! 4 years down, decades and decades to go!

What You Might've Overheard

| Sunday, May 9

Yesterday afternoon, the Hub and I were running around buying Mother's Day gifts and other random things for projects around the house. For lunch we decided to calorie-binge and go to Steak 'n Shake. As always, I could not come anywhere close to finishing my milkshake, so I got a "to go" cup.

We decided we needed to stop at Wal-Mart before going home. I still had my milkshake in my hand. It being 80 degrees outside, I did not want to take it inside.

****
And thus begins this short conversation:

Me: It's okay if I take my milkshake inside, isn't it?

Husband: It's Wal-Mart. You could take a rabid hyena in there and no one would notice.

Me: :starts laughing so hard, I almost hit the pavement: Come here! :gives husband giant kiss: And this is why I love you!
***

If people had overheard bits of this conversation, we'd be the Wal-Mart crazies, wouldn't we?

The Geek Chronicles: The Final Chapter?

| Sunday, May 2
 /via
Part 4: And So The Story Goes
Check out {part 1} {part 2} {part 3}

My husband is an awesomely geeky guy who found the geek girl inside of me and brought her back to life. He introduced me to Firefly. He bought me geeky t-shirts. He took me to see Star Wars: Episode 3. He bought me comic books.

He proposed to me by hiding my ring in a ridiculously obscure German novel that I in no way would have ever wanted to read!

He allowed me to be a lit geek in our wedding, too! As we are not religious people, but had a religious ceremony to appease the parents, I had to put my own touch on it and not have a scripture reading. Instead, I had a good friend, who is also a lit geek (Ph.D. candidate, in fact) read an awesome poem by an awesome poet.

We've been married for (almost) four years now. We go to midnight premiers of comic-book movies. We play table-top RPG and board games. We spend Sunday mornings watching episodes of Firefly or Doctor Who with freshly baked Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. We spend ridiculous amounts of time dreaming up ways to make geeky costume ideas come to fruition (He's dead-set on being Jayne for Dragon*Con). We have creepy Tim Burton figurines decorating the living room of our house. He's my best friend, and I'm his, and we happily inhabit this cocoon of geek we have spun.

This stands as the final chapter to date, but I guarantee you, it will not end here.

And so, to bid you farewell for reading the many parts of my disjointed story, I leave you with this:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
by e. e. cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
