The Geek Chronicles: The Final Chapter?

Part 4: And So The Story Goes
Check out {part 1} {part 2} {part 3}

My husband is an awesomely geeky guy who found the geek girl inside of me and brought her back to life. He introduced me to Firefly. He bought me geeky t-shirts. He took me to see Star Wars: Episode 3. He bought me comic books.

He proposed to me by hiding my ring in a ridiculously obscure German novel that I in no way would have ever wanted to read!

He allowed me to be a lit geek in our wedding, too! As we are not religious people, but had a religious ceremony to appease the parents, I had to put my own touch on it and not have a scripture reading. Instead, I had a good friend, who is also a lit geek (Ph.D. candidate, in fact) read an awesome poem by an awesome poet.

We've been married for (almost) four years now. We go to midnight premiers of comic-book movies. We play table-top RPG and board games. We spend Sunday mornings watching episodes of Firefly or Doctor Who with freshly baked Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. We spend ridiculous amounts of time dreaming up ways to make geeky costume ideas come to fruition (He's dead-set on being Jayne for Dragon*Con). We have creepy Tim Burton figurines decorating the living room of our house. He's my best friend, and I'm his, and we happily inhabit this cocoon of geek we have spun.

This stands as the final chapter to date, but I guarantee you, it will not end here.

And so, to bid you farewell for reading the many parts of my disjointed story, I leave you with this:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
by e. e. cummings

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
                                                      i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

This is a great for-now ending to your story, and one I really relate to. Matt has helped me get in touch with my geek self in so many ways. I think he and your husband would get along really well -- and at the very least they could bond over singing "The Hero of Canton."

Also, I love e.e. cummings!

Awwww how beautiful. I'm so happy I ended up with someone who embraces my inner geek too :)
I posted today on the nerdiness we're incorporating into our wedding!! http://bit.ly/c00JHj

Aw, it's nice that you go so well together. I am busy geekifying my boyfriend. He was already a Lost fan when I met him, but there was still much ground to cover. Firefly? Check. BSG? Check. This summer we will do a review of the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings movies, and he's shown a definite interest in computer RPGs :)

That's a really lovely poem. Perfect for a wedding.

@Melissa Aren't geeky boys great? When I told Hub about your comment, he started singing. :)

@Emily Jane I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Daleks! Yay for wedding geekiness!

@Stephany Thanks. I'm happy with my love story.

@Eleni Best wishes with the geekifying. Sounds like you've made much headway.

Oh, and the "Anonymous" commenter who used the phrase "holy frak buckets" was my husband. Yeah...

I am so jealous you have a geeky husband. I can't seem to find a geeky guy who's into me if my life depended on it :(

Happy to hear your hubby brought you back to geekdom. The geek world would be missing one of the awesomest members of its small population without you haha
